Airpods make a mysterious noise? The mystery ultimately resolved

Periodically,” Apple writes, “AirPods may play a soft ringing sound while in their charging case.” This is to “ensure that the microphones and speakers [of the] AirPods are working optimally.” This solves a mystery that has haunted AirPods owners: some have wondered where that little noise is coming from (you can hear it here).

Sound fishing

This sound, very muffled (you really have to strain your ears to hear it), is explained on this support page from Apple dedicated to the hearing health features of the AirPods Pro 2. The noise can thus be produced to provide high-quality hearing test results, the manufacturer specifies.

This is not the only sound that can come out of the AirPods or their case. When the latter is recharging, it emits a specific noise, which has a logic that is understandable to users - this is less the case for the other sound linked to hearing tests.

MacRumors also points out the existence of a setting available in the dedicated panel of the iPhone, when AirPods are connected to it: you can thus deactivate the sounds of the transport case. But it is true that Apple would be well advised to publish a complete page devoted to these famous little noises!
