Apple assures it, car manufacturers work well on Carplay new generation

CarPlay 2nd generation missed its 2024 date. Apple had indeed announced that the first models equipped with the new software would be released last year… So it missed. The manufacturer ended up updating the page of its American website dedicated to CarPlay, removing any reference to 2024. In France, this same page already cautiously indicated that the first models would be launched "as early as this year", which could apply to any year! Clever.

CarPlay 2.0 not dead!

The apple company remains confident, however. In a statement sent to MacRumors, it assures that car manufacturers are still working on integrating the new CarPlay into their vehicles.

Apple also assures its commitment to the current version of CarPlay, recalling that 98% of cars sold in the United States in recent years are compatible. There are very few models that do not support the remote display system, including those of Tesla and a few others.

CarPlay 2.0 goes much further: it is almost an operating system like Android Automotive, which has access to the data generated by the vehicle's sensors. It can also be displayed on all the car's screens in widgets that manufacturers can customize. Apple had presented this new feature during WWDC 2022.

At the time, the company had proudly unveiled a long list of partner manufacturers, but only two announced their intention to integrate the technology into future vehicles (Porsche and Aston Martin).
