After a year-end marked by the ROG Phone 9 and Phone 9 Pro, Asus is preparing to return to more traditional smartphones. The brand will present the Zenfone 12 Ultra on February 6 and this new high-end smartphone will succeed the current Zenfone 11 Ultra. Asus' schedule is well established and the firm is content with a visual that suggests a device equipped with a screen with very thin borders. They also appear even thinner than those of the Zenfone 11 Ultra while a front photo module is placed at the top of the perforated screen. To inform of the launch of its future smartphone, Asus adds the mention «Coming Soon» (which can be translated here as «Coming Soon» in French) with the letter «O» in the shape of a photo module. A choice that leaves hope for improvements for the photo part of this smartphone.
Let us also note the presence of the hashtag «#AISnapinStyle» which confirms an interest in artificial intelligence. This will not surprise anyone on a high-end phone launched in 2025.
Zenfone 12 Ultra: what to expect?
Asus remains tight-lipped about details and we have to look to leaks to learn more about the Zenfone 12 Ultra. The new model will be a continuation of the Zenfone 11 Ultra from 2024, abandoning the compact format of the Zenfone 10 for a more imposing format. It is likely to be a stripped-down version of the ROG Phone 9, with a more understated design than the brand's gaming models.
The Zenfone 12 Ultra would feature a 6.78-inch OLED display and would offer up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The refresh rate of the panel would climb to 185Hz, offering a smooth experience for all uses. It will add a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a 5800 mAh battery, compatible with 65 W fast charging. On the photo side, we expect a triple rear sensor composed of a 50 Mpx main module (Sony LYTIA 700), a 13 Mpx ultra wide-angle and a 5 Mpx macro lens. A 32 Mpx selfie camera would complete the photo section. In addition, 4K videos with precise subject tracking are also on the program.
Asus would rely heavily on AI to improve the performance of its Zenfone 12 Ultra and the rendering of photos and videos. The new "AI Snap" feature would guarantee automatic and precise focusing.
Price and availability
Asus will make the price of its Zenfone 12 Ultra official on February 6. The announcement will take place from 2:30 p.m. (Taipei time, Taiwan), or 7:30 a.m. in France. Launched earlier than its predecessor, it could remain under the 1000 euro mark in order to stand out from other high-end smartphones of the moment.
