The future Neue Klasse models from BMW — thermal, hybrid and electric — will be equipped with a Panoramic Vision head-up display system that projects information across the entire width of the windshield. It is therefore visible to both the driver and passengers.
Dashboard of the future
It is accompanied by a central touch screen located near the steering wheel, to manage the content displayed in the ribbon, as well as an optional 3D screen. The latter projects information such as navigation or alerts, directly into the driver's field of vision. The ribbon contains widgets to be customized from the central console (there are 6 in total). Dimitri, who was able to take a look at this technology presented at CES, is thrilled:
The steering wheel is also new, with touch buttons but which have a relief so that you can locate them with your fingertips, without having to look at them. Haptic feedback is also included. And of course, these commands allow you to control the main functions of the car.
The software base of this new version of the iDrive interface is called Operating System X (nothing to do with Mac OS X!). This veritable software control tower itself is based not on Android Automotive as one might think, but on AOSP, the open source version of Android. This was already the case with version 9 of the BMW Operating System.
And of course, this OS integrates major language models that power the voice assistant. An app store, the ConnectedDrive Store, contains around sixty applications, including Zoom, and why not.
