Samsung wants to give a financial boost to consumers who want to change their smartphone, with a new trade-in program (at this address) that allows you to get a discount on a purchase. In concrete terms, Samsung takes back a Galaxy S20/S21/S22/S23, a Galaxy Z Fold3/4/5 or a Galaxy Z Flip 3/4/5 for a few dozen or hundreds of euros, to be used towards the purchase of a new model.
The price of peace of mind
A Galaxy S23 (128GB) thus reduces the bill by €235; the sum on a Galaxy Z Fold 4 (1TB) is €530. Likewize, Samsung's partner, offers the same trade-in rates but with no obligation to buy - in other words, you get hard cash. The trade-in amount will be confirmed after Likewize receives the device, which will carry out a thorough diagnosis. Consequently, the final sum may be less.
Somewhat confusingly, Samsung's program also offers the trade-in of a fairly considerable number of old smartphones of all brands (iPhone, Asus, HTC, etc.) but the discount is then only €1. You can also trade in tablets, smartwatches and wireless headphones, also of all brands.
Despite everything, the program is not uninteresting in absolute terms, but like Apple's trade-in system, it is financially more interesting to go through the second-hand market directly. A Galaxy S23 Ultra taken back for €430 by Samsung can be sold for around €600 on LeBonCoin. However, these manufacturer take-back programs have the advantage of avoiding sellers the unpleasant surprises that can arise with classified ads. Peace of mind comes at a cost, after all!
After inspection, the devices sent to Likewize are either resold after deleting the data or recycled “responsibly”.
