The controversial star of PlayStation's latest State of Play will rely on the Helldivers 2 model in the hope of convincing players who are still reluctant. On May 30, the Japanese manufacturer unveiled new productions during a summer conference that was, to say the least, discreet. Far from the popularity contest that the industry has accustomed us to for years with E3, Sony organized a presentation that was, after all, classic, devoid of any truly surprising announcements. However, the introduction of the virtual event was not lacking to get people talking about it, and for the wrong reasons.
Concord, the first game from FireWalk – a new PlayStation studio founded by the former head of Bungie – opened the festivities with a long cinematic presentation. With its airs of Destiny with a Guardians of the Galaxy twist, the title that was starting to pique the curiosity of spectators was quick to disillusion them. When it became clear that this new production was none other than yet another team-based shooter, the chats of the various live streams went wild. “Why produce a new competitor to Overwatch?” many players wondered, without even knowing that Marvel Rivals was also at the State of Play.
With only 5,000 “likes” on the YouTube trailer for nearly 363,000 views, it goes without saying that Concord is far from having made a strong impression. Sony is now counting on a multiplatform release and an attractive pricing policy to ensure a proper launch for its new license.
Why change a winning team
Last February, Helldivers 2 was a resounding success thanks to a strategy as simple as it is effective. By publishing the title on PlayStation 5 and PC simultaneously, at an entry price of only 39.99 euros, players did not hesitate to throw themselves into the battle, going so far as to overload the servers for weeks. Presumably proud of this publishing model, Sony is preparing to try the experience again with Concord.
At least that's what the title's page on the Australian PlayStation Store suggests, spotted by a user on the ResetEra forum. The FPS is available for pre-order there for AU$59.95 in its basic version and AU$94.95 in its deluxe version, the same prices as those charged for Helldivers 2. In our country, Concord should therefore be sold at 39.99 euros and 59.99 euros depending on the edition chosen.
Note that the game page also tells us that three-day early access, 16 character skins and 2 weapon skins will be included in the digital deluxe edition. Any pre-order of the title regardless of the edition will also guarantee access to the beta session scheduled for next July. Will this be enough to save the title from the wrath of players? Nothing is less certain. The studio, however, promises an experience different from other games of the genre, where “each connection marks the beginning of a new adventure and each match is an opportunity to discover a new story.” It remains to be seen how this will take shape.
