Disney+ launched the hunt for account sharing in France

Disney+ launched the hunt for account sharing in France

Disney+ has carried out its threat, after promising it for months and months. The platform has started to warn subscribers who have the misfortune of sharing their account with relatives who are not in the same household. Alloforfait has witnessed these notifications, following the use of a Disney+ subscription in two different households, therefore with two different IP addresses.

Two types of alerts can appear on the screen. The first has this message: "About sharing Disney+ outside your household". If the person detected is part of the same household, the application sends a code to the email associated with the account to be entered into the device within 15 minutes. You can also disconnect the device or decide to take out a new subscription.

The other message, "This TV does not appear to be part of the Disney+ household", offers to create either a new account and therefore a new subscription, or to indicate that you are traveling or to reset the location of the household. In the latter case, the number of steps is limited, so you should not hope to cheat the service by regularly changing households. This help sheet summarizes all the available options.

For Disney+, a household corresponds to "all the devices associated with [the] primary personal residence and which are used by the people who reside there". The streaming service should offer the creation of an "Extra" account linked to the subscription. This is at least the case in the United States starting at $6.99, but not yet in France.

Disney+ simply offers to subscribe to a new subscription for the moment, however the profile transfer is indeed available. The person who previously used the account holder's identifiers will be able to find their preferences and history on the new account.

Remember that it is still possible to subscribe to the special offer €1.99 per month for 12 months until January 21 (this is the subscription with advertising).
