Glory to Bouygues Telecom. The ISP received almost all the honors in the annual nPerf fixed connection barometer, where you can test the speed and quality of your internet connection. Bouygues takes first place for upload speeds with an average of 289.14 Mb/s, and for latency (13.56 ms).
SFR ugly duckling
Only Free manages to stand out for download speeds with an average of 390.11 Mb/s. Bouygues Telecom is also first in the web browsing tests which measure the loading times of the 5 most popular sites. In this little game, Bouygues displays average performances of 85.66%. In streaming too, where the aim is to measure the loading time of a video in 3 resolutions on YouTube, the ISP is first with an average performance of 91.69%.
And it's not over: Bouygues Telecom subscribers also benefited from the best Wi-Fi performances in all categories. The ugly duckling of the gang of four is none other than SFR, last in download speed, upload speed, browsing and streaming (!). The operator with the red square saves its honor by not being last in the latency category, a place occupied by Free.
The general ranking therefore gives these positions: Bouygues in the lead, followed by Free, Orange and SFR. See you next year to find out if the places have changed!
nPerf also examined this year the breakthrough of Wi-Fi 6, a technology that became widespread among ISPs in 2024. On average, boxes that integrate it allow for speeds that are "more than twice as high" than boxes using Wi-Fi 5. The test platform nevertheless notes that an Ethernet connection (with a speed greater than 2.5Gb/s) is preferable because it remains the best way to exploit the power of the internet connection.
