Forget Resident Evil: here is a liminal point, his worthy successor

While Capcom has just sounded the death knell for Resident Evil RE:Verse, the independent studio HideWorks has just announced a return to the origins of horror games with Liminal Point. After trying their hand at the FPS recipe in The Devil is in the Details in 2024, the developers are now banking on isometric graphics in homage to the blockbusters of 30 years ago. This new production is already presented as a spiritual sequel to Resident Evil and Silent Hill with a little touch of Signalis: and it goes without saying that these comparisons are well deserved. The first trailer promises us an atmosphere, gameplay and mechanics perfectly inspired by the greatest survival horror games in history.

An experience between reality and nightmares

The plot of Liminal Point will take place on the island of Ashen Point, a place full of mystery linked to the past of the young protagonist Lyra. It is here that the story of her rock band, once on the rise, came to an abrupt end. Like any good survival horror game, the heroine gets trapped by a trigger that would have repelled any other person: a strange voice message inviting her to return.

The desolate, fog-covered island seems loosely inspired by Silent Hill, while the game's interface and resource management system follow the foundations established by the Resident Evil franchise. Signalis fans should also spot some similarities in the game's combat. Thanks to its isometric viewing angle, Liminal Point is able to rely on strikingly realistic visuals, amplified by dynamic lighting to great effect.

A promising title... but not right away

Liminal Point already has something to make survival horror fans dream, but they will have to be patient. For now, the studio is betting on a launch sometime in 2026, without further details. It is already possible to add the game to your wish list via the Steam store, the only platform announced for the moment. The first production from the HideWorks studio – The Devil is in the Details – is also exclusive to the Valve store, but it is not impossible that the craze behind this new project will allow Liminal Point to be exported to other machines.
