Galaxy S25 Edge: finer but less powerful than the rest of the range

What kind of stuff is the Galaxy S25 Edge made of? While the rest of the Galaxy S25 range hasn't exactly stirred up the enthusiasm of the masses - don't get us wrong: they're excellent smartphones - the ultra-thin model presented at the beginning of the year is very intriguing. Samsung has been careful not to reveal too much, but fortunately the indiscretions are there to fill in the gaps.

Samsung's compromises

In this case, it's a Geekbench benchmark that confirms the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Elite under the hood, and measures the processor's capabilities. This one displays a score of 2806 for the single-core test, and 8416 for the multi-core test. Compare this with the results of the other Galaxy S25 equipped with the same chip, which are a little higher (around 3000 and 9000, respectively).

Galaxy S25 Edge: finer but less powerful than the rest of the range

Is the Galaxy S25 Edge less efficient? That would hardly be surprising. In such a compact chassis (we're talking about 6.4 mm), it is necessary to be able to manage heat even more efficiently than in a larger device. Samsung may have decided to slightly limit the clock frequency of the chip.

Moreover, the difference is not that huge: a Galaxy S25 Edge should without too much problem be just as fluid as a Galaxy S25 in daily use, and even sustained. And then this is a first bench; others will follow which may show a gain. What will be more problematic, however, is the autonomy. A leak reports that the smartphone's battery would be limited to 3900 mAh, which is less than on other models in the range (4000 mAh on the Galaxy S25) and far from some much larger monsters.

Samsung has also sacrificed one photo sensor out of the three that the rest of the Galaxy S25 has (the Edge has "only" 2, which is already not bad). Of course, we will have to wait to have the device in our hands to judge its real capabilities! The manufacturer has not announced a launch date, but May seems to be the month favored by punters.
