Galaxy S25 Edge: Samsung's ultra-fine smartphone secrets unveiled

Galaxy S25 Edge: Samsung's ultra-fine smartphone secrets unveiled

Last week, Samsung had a one more thing moment à la Apple by unveiling the Galaxy S25 Edge. The surprise was almost total since the name of this phone had never been mentioned, but noises of color mentioned the arrival of a fourth model in the Galaxy S25 family. We were expecting a possible S25 Slim later in the year and it is an "Edge" that Samsung has finally put before our eyes.

Design, camera... its technical sheet is taking shape

Contrary to initial speculations which mentioned a triple camera system, the Galaxy S25 Slim will be entitled to a dual camera configuration. The official images of the smartphone leave little room for doubt and the Samsung device would offer a 200 Mpx main sensor and a 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle.

This information comes from an "internal prototype" according to the user of X (@PandaFlashPro) who leaked this. It is still possible that Samsung will change the configuration of its smartphone, but the latter seems plausible. Indeed, it is quite close to that of the Galaxy S25 and S25+ which offer a 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle sensor. As for the 200 Mpx module, it is not new to the South Korean manufacturer and would help make up for the lack of a telephoto lens.

As for screen protection, the Galaxy S25 Edge would have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 similar to the S25 and S25+ models. The Galaxy S25 Ultra would remain the only model in the range to offer even more advanced protection, the Gorilla Armor 2.

A Snapdragon 8 Elite under the hood, but with one less core?

The Galaxy S25 Edge's asset would be its design and the smartphone would stand out with its ultra-thin design of only 6.4 mm. For comparison, the Galaxy S25 measures 7.2 mm thick, while the iPhone 16 reaches 7.8 mm. This finesse requires technical compromises, but the South Korean brand is still aiming for the high-end with a Galaxy S.

The device would be equipped with a 6.7-inch OLED screen displaying in Full HD+, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Snapdragon 8 Elite would be placed in the S25 Edge, but a A slightly different variant from the other S25s is to be expected. The existence of this variation is no longer in doubt and would lose a CPU core along the way. The Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750-3-AB) claims two very high-performance Oryon cores (up to 4.32 GHz) and five high-performance cores (up to 3.53 GHz). In its original version, the Snapdragon 8 Elite adds a sixth high-performance core. Indeed, the GPU remains exactly the same on both versions.

Promising on paper, the Galaxy S25 Edge will certainly have to make sacrifices on the battery to maintain an ultra-thin design. Rumors are predicting a battery between 3000 and 4000 mAh, a capacity at best similar to that of the current Galaxy S25. Moreover, the Edge variant would also be content with a maximum charging speed of 25 W. This is comparable to the smallest of the S25 and significantly lower than the S25+ and S25 Ultra which reach 45 W.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to be launched in spring 2025, probably in April or May, in certain markets. A quick release that would allow the Android manufacturer to get ahead of Apple, whose iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) is expected in fall 2025.
