Galaxy Z Flip FE: Samsung ready to break the prices of folding smartphones?

Galaxy Z Flip FE: Samsung ready to break the prices of folding smartphones?

Samsung is the benchmark for folding smartphones in Europe and the manufacturer intends to remain so. Faced with the emergence of new brands with aggressive pricing practices, Samsung is reportedly preparing a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip. The idea has been making headway for several months and the arrival of a Galaxy Z Flip FE is becoming clearer. On the X platform, Erencan Yılmaz – who works as an editor at SmartPrix and Gizmochina – has published a suggestive tweet about Samsung's upcoming foldable model.

With the support of a screenshot, he explains that the manufacturer has added a new reference on its servers dedicated to software updates. The Galaxy Z Flip FE would bear the serial number SM-F761B and the presence of this letter B is good news. Indeed, it suggests that Samsung's more affordable foldable model would arrive in Europe and probably in France.

A sort of Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a few adjustments

The future Galaxy Z Flip FE will be a foldable smartphone with clamshell, like the current Galaxy Z Flip6 from which it would largely take over the technical sheet. The latest rumors mention the presence of the same 6.7-inch AMOLED internal screen, displaying a comfortable definition (2640 x 1080 pixels) with a variable refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 2600 nits. It would add ultra-thin tempered glass (UTG) protection while the external screen is still debated.

Like Motorola, Samsung could create a difference between its models by saving on the second screen. The possibility of the Galaxy Z Flip FE returning to a smaller external panel, like on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Z Flip 4, should not be ruled out.

Under the hood, Samsung is reportedly moving away from Qualcomm and Snapdragon to offer a home-made chip. The Exynos 2400e, a slightly less powerful variant of the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S24, is said to be in the lead. This change would have the advantage of reducing the bill and offering performance worthy of a high-end smartphone from 2024. The device would add up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, enough to allow it to access Galaxy AI features. We can hope for tools like the interpreter for real-time translation and various AI functions for photography and productivity.

Towards an August launch, with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE will not arrive immediately and should wait until the summer. An Unpacked event, probably in August, should allow it to be made official alongside the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. Its price has not been leaked, but the Galaxy Z Flip FE will seek to position itself as a more affordable option in Samsung's smartphone range.

Its launch is no longer in doubt and should help Samsung get back on its feet. Indeed, sales of the Galaxy Z Fol6 and Z Flip6 are not reaching peaks and Samsung lost its place as number one folding smartphone in the world last year.
