Google Docs on Android could soon integrate bookmarks, document tabs, and artificial intelligence tools to summarize texts. Additions that could offer an experience closer to that of the web version.
Android on Google Docs would be full of new features
The Google Docs application on Android already offers a large part of the features present on the web version, but some options are still missing. According to an analysis of version 1.25.062.00.90 of the application by Android Authority, several tools previously exclusive to the web could soon be integrated on mobile. Google is reportedly working on improvements to document navigation and organization, as well as a first foray into artificial intelligence in its Android app.
One of the main new features coming soon is the addition of bookmarks. This feature, already available on the web and iOS versions, allows you to mark passages in a document in order to find them easily. On Android, it could be accessible via the top menu after selecting a text, adding a bookmark icon next to the saved passage.
Another interesting addition: the ability to create document tabs. This option allows you to structure a file into several distinct sections that can be accessed via tabs. In the Android version in development, this feature would be activated in edit mode, thus offering better organization of the content.
From AI to the program
Google also seems to want to enrich its mobile application with AI-based tools, similar to those already present on Gmail. Analysis of the source code of the new version reveals the integration of features under the name Gemini, including a “Summarize this document” button and an option to detail key points.
A Gemini icon has also been spotted in the top toolbar, opening a context menu to enable these features. For now, they are not yet functional and display an error message, but their presence suggests an imminent rollout. It is not known exactly when Google will enable these features, but their integration in the source code suggests that they could arrive in a future update.
