Google's phone app incorporates a new function to manage your call history

Google's Phone app is getting an interesting update in the call history. Google has decided to implement a new system to allow you to sort your recent calls. The feature, currently being tested, should make it easier to find a specific call.

Filters in the call history

Over the weekend, Google rolled out a new version of the public beta of its Phone app. This introduces, in the recent calls tab, a horizontal line at the top of the call history with different filters to sort the listed calls. This new feature, activated in version 159.0.718038457 of the public beta of the app, will allow you to sort recent calls in different ways. You can choose to display All, or only display Missed calls, those from your Contacts, Non-spam calls and those considered Spam. In the future, we could imagine that Google will allow users to create custom filters to sort, for example, calls from family members, work-related calls or friends.

A rather welcome development since until now you had to access the options menu from the Recent tab to view the history. Furthermore, the only filters in this history allowed you to sort only missed calls, or to display All calls. Access to the call history from the options menu in the Recents tab has also been replaced by a new option to Clear call history.
This new filter system is currently only being tested in the beta version of Google's Phone app. We will probably have to wait a few more days, or even a few weeks, for the Mountain View firm to deploy this new feature for all users in the stable version of its application.

Over the last few months, Google has multiplied the updates of its Phone application. Last March, the American company began to group calls from all applications in the call history of its Phone app. It also introduced a new button to switch from a voice call to a video call quickly.

More recently, hackers discovered that the Mountain View firm was working on a new function allowing users to provide information aimed at tracking down calls from scammers.
