Baldur’s Gate 3 was never released on iOS, and the Larian studio, which developed the famous role-playing game, has no plans to adapt it for mobile. And yet, until very recently, Baldur’s Gate 3 – Mobile Turuk could still be found on the App Store. This “game” took many visual elements from the original, including official screenshots on which a touch interface was grafted.
Beware of App Store scams
Enough to fool the player, too happy to be able to play the phenomenon game of the year 2023 on his iPhone! Especially since this real-fake version was offered for free download. The scam was that to access (supposedly) the "real" game, you had to sign up for a $30 per month subscription... which led to nothing. Furthermore, this application collected a large amount of personal data.
This real-fake mobile version, which appeared last November, has since been removed from the App Store, without it being known whether Apple has cleaned up. The idea of having Baldur’s Gate 3 on iOS is not far-fetched: the power of Apple chips is more than enough for this kind of big game. And then the previous episodes — legitimate ones, those — of the franchise are indeed offered in the store.
The trend is not new and affects both the App Store and the Google Play Store. Another example: a certain GTA 6 Mobile/Car Games 2024, still present in the Apple store, is riding the wave of anticipation for the next installment of the GTA saga, still scheduled for this fall. Except that it's a parking simulator (!), with no direct link to the original title.
The developer simply took the name "GTA 6" to easily attract customers. There are no plans for a mobile version of GTA 6, which will be released first on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X (the PC version will wait until later). Apple and Google aren't the only ones to blame: there are also parasitic games on the Switch eShop.
In any case, let's remember that it's very easy to get a refund for a purchase made on the App Store.
