Helldivers 2 soon on Xbox? Discussions begin

Helldivers 2 is not going to be defeated. Several months after its release, the cooperative shooter still brings together a huge number of fighters ready to sacrifice themselves for democracy. The Terminids and automatons are pale in comparison to the fearsome shooters. Soon, the democratic army could be even larger than at the start, thanks to a possible partnership between PlayStation and Xbox.

You read that right, the two historic competitors may soon be shaking hands for a collaboration bringing the game Helldivers 2 to Xbox consoles. The news comes from journalist Shpeshal Nick in the latest episode of The XboxEra Podcast. He says that the two companies’ plans will converge on this front and that discussions are already underway:

We know that PlayStation has a new CEO right now, and I think the new CEO might be more open to certain things. And what I’ve heard is that there might be some very, very early preliminary discussions about the possibility of to see Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox.

Change of strategy for Sony?

It should be remembered that Jim Ryan has not been the head of PlayStation since March 2024. For the moment, Hiroki Totoki is assuming the responsibilities of CEO while waiting to find a replacement. This position is extremely important since the person who will sit there will be able to decide on the trajectory of PlayStation in the coming years, and opening up to other ecosystems is part of it.

The firm was already starting to open up little by little small to the PC and mobile environments, but has always kept a certain distance from Xbox consoles PlayStation has built its reputation on its strong and exclusive licenses. After decades of dominance, what would be the point of giving this opportunity to a competitor?

The only valid argument would be to strengthen the community by attracting more players. Helldivers 2 is a cooperative game that puts mutual aid at the forefront. If the port is proven, and crossplay follows, it is a safe bet that the title will strengthen the bonds between players. In our world as it is, we can only consider this hypothesis. It would also allow Sony to generate more revenue, both through purchases and micro-transactions, and this in the long term.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed by either party, so we must take this new information with a grain of salt. Despite everything, we can only hope that the rumor is true, in the same way that Xbox games are opening up to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players – Grounded, Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush are concerned.
