iOS 18.3 is available in a stable version on the iPhone, but without big news

iOS 18.3 is officially available to everyone. After releasing three betas since December 18, Apple unveiled a few days ago the fourth and final version of iOS 18.3 beta, which is none other than the final version served to everyone tonight. And one thing is certain, this update will not make a big impression. Because the main changes made concern features that are not yet available to European users, and by extension to French users, since they all concern Apple Intelligence in one way or another.

New for Apple Intelligence, but still not in France

iOS 18.3 reserves its main new features for Apple Intelligence, which is expected to be released in France in April, with iOS 18.4. In other words, you should not notice any significant changes on your device. Concretely, iOS 18.3 gives the “Camera Control” button, exclusive to the iPhone 16, access to Visual Intelligence, Apple’s Google Lens. You can use this button to quickly launch a visual search. Another new feature, the + button in Messages now allows access to the Genmoji module which allows you to create emojis using Apple’s AI. Another change (which still does not concern us), the summary of notifications has been disabled for certain applications, after having gone a bit off the rails.

For the rest, iOS 18.3 corrects the behavior of the calculator which repeats the last mathematical operation performed as soon as you press the equal button.

The list of new features is just as slender for iPadOS 18.3, tvOS 18.3, watchOS 11.3, visionOS 2.3, HomePod OS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3 (phew!). We will still note the appearance of Genmoji on Mac, a function linked to Apple Intelligence that generates personalized emojis. Unlike iPhones and iPads, Apple Intelligence is available in Europe on Mac, but only in English for the moment.

iOS 18.4 expected for April

While iOS 18.3 will not shake up the crowds, iOS 18.4 on the other hand, should prove to be much more interesting. The next major update of iOS 18, which is expected for April, without however knowing its precise deployment date, will activate, it (finally!) Apple Intelligence in Europe, and by extension in France. All the functions linked to Apple's artificial intelligence, such as Image PlayGround, Genmoji or Visual Intelligence will be accessible from the iPhone 15 and 16 in France, and in French, what's more.
