And yet another adaptation on the long list of video games that will be brought to the big screen, in theaters or on the small screen. After the huge successes and adaptations of cult franchises, such as The Last Of Us, Fallout, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, Super Mario, Pokémon, Sonic, Gran Turismo or Uncharted to name a few, projects are multiplying.

We still have big licenses that are planned to be adapted soon, such as Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon or Death Stranding. But also more and more licenses, less cult, like recently Sleeping Dogs and now Just Cause. More than ever, video games are Hollywood's new El Dorado.

Just Cause is coming to the cinema soon

Just Cause is a license that is already celebrating its 18th anniversary. It was in 2006 that the first installment arrived, offering players the chance to play as Rico Rodriguez. The idea of the Just Cause saga is to fight and bring down dictatorships in fictional countries. The first two installments in the series (in 2006 and 2010) adopted a serious tone and could be serious rivals to the GTA license.

With Just Cause 3, the series began to move away from the serious to adopt a more "relaxed" genre before fully assuming the offbeat side of Just Cause 4. It remains a license with modest success with more than 15 million games sold worldwide across four installments.

We learned today, from the site The Wrap, that the adaptation of the film Just Cause will be managed by Aaron Rabin at the screenplay level. We owe it to the latter several scripts like the series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan or Silent River. In terms of direction, the film Just Cause will be entrusted to Angel Manuel Soto, to whom we owe the direction of Blue Beetle and the upcoming Amazon film The Wrecking Crew.

The name of the film should be Operation Just Cause, which is the name of "the real-life invasion of Panama by the United States" and which actually inspired the name of the video game license. At the moment, we still don't know when the film is due to be released or which actors and actresses are involved in the project.

We only know that several people would be involved in this adaptation including Kelly McCormick and David Leitch at the production level (to whom we owe the films Fall Guys or Bullet Train). Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson and Dan Jevons should also be part of the executive production. These people have worked on the adaptations of Sonic the Hedgehog or Tomb Raider.
