Officially announced in May 2023, during a PlayStation Showcase, rumors surrounding Metal Gear Solid3: Snake Eater Delta date back to 2021, following an initial report from VGC. Several rumors confirmed the title's release for 2024 and PlayStation had even teased the game among the list of PS5 titles that were due to arrive that year.
Finally, it is in 2025 that the game will make its big comeback and more precisely on August 28, 2025. Information confirmed by new leaks.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Delta returns at the end of August
A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Delta has just leaked online, confirming the release date for August 28, 2025 on PS5 Pro, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. According to the latest rumors, this trailer was initially supposed to be released during Sony's next State of Play, which should arrive next week.
The leak and the error this time come from PlayStation and more precisely from PlayStation Store which updated the game's official page way too early (before quickly deleting the information via a new update). Of course, on the Internet, the minute information hits the web, there's no going back. Thus, several Internet users and media outlets were able to recover all the information such as the new trailer and the official description of the game:
"The core experience of the original, evolved and more immersive than ever.
A remake of the 2004 game METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, with the same captivating story and captivating world, now with new graphics and 3D sound that enhance the jungle atmosphere. Prepare for the ultimate stealth-action survival experience.
Everything you love, and more
The story, characters, voice acting, gameplay, and music that made the original game a hit are back, remade for modern consoles. This evolutionary leap breathes new life into every cutscene and rebuilds every corner of the world.
True-to-Life Representations
The battle damage system has been enhanced, with the wear and tear on Snake’s clothing, as well as the bruises and gunshot wounds on his body, reflected in real-time. The injuries will leave their mark on Snake’s body permanently, telling the story of each player’s unique journey through the game.
Deeply Immersive Experiences
Players can opt for a new, more modern control style. These intuitive controls allow you to focus entirely on the game and the immersive sensations of the stealth survival experience. You can also choose to play with a classic control style that more faithfully recreates the feeling of the original game."
The PlayStation Store page also allowed us to discover the new features of the game, namely, the return of a cult mode from MGS 3:
This mode is also teased in the new trailer and it will be a new collaboration (to say the least surprising) between Metal Gear Solid and the defunct license Ape Escape, as was already the case at the time, when the first opus was released.
Is this simply a teaser for a possible return of the Ape Escape license in the coming months? As we know, Sony is not against the idea of bringing back old cult licenses. On the contrary. And according to journalist Andy Robinson in the latest VGC podcast, Sony is of course working on several returns of major licenses. Recently, we learned of the development of a new MotorStorm and the filing of the Resistance trademark.
Could Ape Escape also be part of the big comeback projects? Watch this space.
