Microsoft will increase the price of its Microsoft 365 subscription

If, like many, you use the Microsoft 365 office suite, prepare yourself for a price increase. Microsoft has just made official a price increase for the subscription for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family. A first in twelve years that Microsoft justifies by the arrival of its Copilot within these two offers.

Copilot integrates Microsoft 365 Personal and Family

Copilot, the assistant powered by Microsoft's artificial intelligence, can be invoked in Office applications. Microsoft illustrates its decision by giving several scenarios for using its AI assistant in its office applications. Copilot will be able to analyze your Excel tables, possibly generate your PowerPoint presentations, or offer you a summary of the latest emails that have arrived in your inbox. It’s not certain, however, that users are really ready to pay more for their Microsoft 365 subscription to simply ask Copilot to generate the weekly menus in Word as the Redmond firm suggests.

That said, the arrival of Copilot in Microsoft 365 is not the only new feature. Microsoft has also indicated that its new Microsoft Designer application is also joining the Microsoft 365 Personal and Family offers to offer subscribers “the ability to do more image creation and editing than [its] free users.” The tool will thus be accessible from other Microsoft 365 applications such as Word and PowerPoint, but it can also be used independently in a standalone application accessible on the Web as well as on mobile.

This graphic creation platform, a real alternative to tools like Canva, can be used to modify your photos using AI, offer a graphic layout of your writings, or even create layouts for your texts, or simply generate images from a text description.

Copilot increases the price of Microsoft 365, but will be limited in its use

However, Microsoft 365 subscribers will not be able to enjoy Copilot at will. Microsoft explains that users will be allocated AI credits each month allowing them to use Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. These credits can also be used to generate images in Microsoft Designer or to edit existing images using AI, as well as for other applications that integrate Copilot, such as Notepad, Paint, or the Photos application. It should also be noted that for Microsoft 365 Family subscribers, only the owner of the subscription will be able to benefit from the functions powered by Copilot.

The integration of Copilot into the Microsoft 365 Personal and Family offers will result in an increase of 3 euros per month. The Personal offer thus increases from 7 euros to 10 euros per month, while the Family subscription increases from 10 to 13 euros per month.
