Mini has chosen the electric, to the detriment of its convertibles

Electricity is expensive at Mini, so much so that by integrating itself into the range, the engine came to replace another version, more expensive than the classic range: the convertible. To avoid seeing the prices of its range soar, Mini decided not to renew the electric on its convertible, after an attempt at the beginning of 2023, with the Mini SE. By switching to electric and with a retractable canvas roof, the car cost a whopping 60,000 euros.

To continue dreaming with a Mini convertible, it will be imperative to turn to a thermal version. For the moment, this is the four-cylinder version of 163 hp, or the 204 hp version. These cost 33,450 and 36,800 euros respectively, a high sum, but much lower than that of the electric version, soon to be a collector's item. According to BMW Blog, the brand has therefore chosen to cancel its future plans for an electric convertible based on the new range.

Mini's new turn

As a reminder, Mini plans to reinvent itself with three models, now available on the market: the Cooper E, the Aceman, and the Countryman E. With them, the brand is continuing its strategy in compact models, taking up the brand's codes while modernizing them (in particular on the lights and the central screen on board), but by exploring ever larger volumes however. Produced in China, the models share many technical elements with BMW's electric range.

In October, the brand made another turn, this time at the level of its dealerships, by changing its distribution model. Now it's time for the agency contract, with direct invoicing between the customer and the manufacturer, without going through dealerships. A way to keep control of its prices, put an end to discounts, and maintain a good rating on the used market. At that time, Mini lowered the prices of its models by around 10%.
