Nintendo has indeed announced its new console today, as the latest leaks had predicted. The Switch 2, since that is its name, will not surprise those who were trying to surf on the countless rumors and other indiscretions of recent months! The console uses the same principle as the first Switch, namely a tablet equipped with a stand on the back and two Joy-Con controllers, this time magnetic.
Nintendo is stingy with details, there are in fact no technical characteristics, except for the presence of a second USB-C port. We can see that the Joy-Con controllers are larger, probably because the console itself has a larger screen. However, the manufacturer seems to confirm that these controllers can act as mice (we'll see how that works in games).
This is no surprise, but Nintendo also indicates that Switch 1 games will be compatible with the Switch 2, whether they are digital versions from the eShop or cartridges. Please note that some games may be “incompatible or not fully compatible”. History will remember that the first (and only) game shown by Nintendo was none other than Mario Kart, whose players have been waiting for a new episode for ages.
After the announcement, events to discover the Nintendo Switch 2
The company will organize "discovery events" for the device all around the world, for France it will be from April 4 to 6; Registrations will open on January 17, and it will be a random draw. Good luck!
Nintendo is not revealing any price or launch date, but the manufacturer is giving an appointment on April 2 to find out more through a dedicated Direct.
