Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis clarifies: “For the (a) series, we have a different set of users. When people buy a smartphone, some are looking for the best specifications, they want the latest innovations and the latest processors. However, other users are just as passionate about technology, but are satisfied with a great user experience – The (a) series is aimed at them. Nothing has unveiled three smartphones in 2024 (Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus and the Phone 1 via its sub-brand CMF) and is preparing to go back into battle. A teaser published on social networks, including X, indicates that the brand will make an announcement on March 4. This date coincides with the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which will be held from March 3 to 6. The event will start at 11:00 AM.
The post not only mentions the date and time, it also includes a message and an image. “Powerful in perspective”, we can read on Nothing's post, while the image seems to refer to a smartphone. The young company's announcement would concern the Nothing Phone (3), one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2025.
A new design for the Nothing Phone (3)?
Renowned for its mastered communication, Nothing suggests that its next smartphone would opt for a new design. This element is part of the company’s DNA and the teaser shows what appears to be the camera block and the Glyph interface. For those unfamiliar, Nothing’s Glyph interface is a set of programmable LEDs on the back of its phones, which can be configured for alarms or notifications. The layout is said to be different from previous models and the feature is said to have a pulsing effect. Some observers mention a central arrangement of the sensors, reminiscent of older models like the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Another move upmarket, and in price?
The brand's future smartphone would be high-end, which would be a novelty. Indeed, Nothing has bet on the mid-range and the quality-price ratio with the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus in 2024. The Phone (3) would offer a triple camera, a first for Nothing, with the probable addition of a telephoto lens. It would accompany the essential wide-angle (main sensor) and ultra-wide-angle. Under the hood, rumor has it that the smartphone will feature Qualcomm's latest high-end chip and AI features.
In mid-January, the famous leaker Evan Blass had released a screenshot of an internal email from the boss of Nothing. Carl Pei mentioned the arrival of the Nothing Phone (3), without mentioning any technical specifications. In addition to the Phone (3), the manufacturer is expected to unveil a Phone (3) and a possible Phone (3a) later this year. The move upmarket of Nothing's flagship model should result in a price increase. The Phone (2) was priced from 679 euros when it was released, while the Phone (3a) was priced from 349 euros. As for the Phone (2a) Plus, it cost 449 euros when it was released.
