Usually, when you go to the checkout, if the payment terminal breaks down, you are not offered to leave quietly with your new purchase without paying. For once, this is the experience that subscribers to Nvidia's GeForce Now will feel like they are going through. It must be said that the company takes full responsibility for the imbroglio.
Unable to pay...
Since yesterday, the billing service for GeForce Now (Nvidia's cloud gaming service) has been inoperable. Members can therefore neither cancel their subscription, nor change their payment method, etc. The cause: a migration of services to a new provider. As a result, NVIDIA has paused the entire system.
In an article titled Important Updates to GeForce Now Memberships, the company explains: "GeForce Now is switching to a new payment provider. Starting January 31, 2025 [so a bit early], billing will be removed during the payment services transition. Even if you are not billed, your account remains in good standing.”
A similar warning appears in account management: “System maintenance in progress. Billing will be suspended during the payment services transition phase, while your account will remain in good standing. GeForce Now will be available for free to paid subscription holders during this transition phase. Some features may be unavailable during this period.”
NVIDIA estimates that the migration will take at least five weeks. In the meantime, subscribers will therefore not be billed. Thank goodness, we are tempted to write, given that membership changes and cancellations are suspended. For members who wanted to end their subscription, they will therefore have to remember to do so when the services are back online.
Here is what the FAQ states on this subject:
"When will I be billed next? Billing will be removed for the duration of the transition, which will push back your next billing cycle by the same amount of time. We expect the transition to take at least five weeks."
No new memberships possible
As a logical consequence of all of the above, any new membership to the service is currently impossible (including the free trial). In addition, gift cards and promotional codes can no longer be entered.
To return to subscribers, the purchase of additional hours (Nvidia has set a limit of 100 hours per month for certain accounts) is also suspended.
To conclude, the company specifies that GeForce Now will not close. It will continue to operate without interruption, regardless of the change of payment service provider.
