At the end of 2023, OnePlus shocked the entire tech press by releasing a very accomplished folding smartphone, the OnePlus Open (the friends at Journal du Geek were able to test it at the time, here is their test). Unfortunately, OnePlus announced on February 13, 2025 on its forum that there will be no OnePlus Open 2.
A surprise, given that the brand's many fans were expecting an announcement along these lines. Indeed, after a break in 2024, Oppo announced the launch on February 20, 2025 of a new folding phone, the Oppo Find N5, which should be the thinnest folding phone on the market, no less.
However, the previous model, Oppo Find N3, was released in our countries under another name: the famous OnePlus Open that we told you about in the intro. That was all it took to wait for the launch of a version of the Find N5 under the name OnePlus Open.
No OnePlus folding phone in 2025… like in 2024
The post by OnePlus product manager Vale G. himself returns to the many messages received in this regard. He therefore puts an end to the wait by cutting short any rumors with these words:
After a break in 2024, here is a break in 2025. From there to saying that OnePlus is completely stopping foldables, there is only one step. A little further on in his text, the product manager does not, however, close the door to a new OnePlus foldable: "Our decision to take a break from foldables for this generation does not mean that we are moving away from the category."
As a reminder, OnePlus has always belonged to the Oppo group. But from 2021, OnePlus has been gradually integrated, if not absorbed, by its parent company. The teams in charge of the software have, for example, been merged. Product development has also been streamlined, with the Oppo Find N3 in front of a OnePlus Open being the best example. It is not impossible that this decision on the foldable market is the culmination of this strategy. Vale G. himself emphasizes “Oppo takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5″. The message is clear: if you want something foldable that looks like a OnePlus, look to Oppo products.
