Outlook is about to ship a new feature that will make Gmail users pale in dismay. Microsoft has just unveiled the upcoming arrival of a new feature that will allow you to quickly switch from your draft email to another task in the mobile version of its email client.
Outlook can minimize the draft window to switch tasks
Who has never had to interrupt the writing of an email to go and find information such as another email or a calendar event to integrate it into their message? This is the problem that Microsoft intends to solve by deploying a function that allows you to temporarily minimize the draft of an email. Thanks to this, it is no longer necessary to save your draft and then go and find it to continue writing your message. The button to minimize the email writing window, grafted to the top right of it, is similar to the one used by Microsoft on application windows under Windows.
By pressing it, the window of the message being written is automatically minimized in a dedicated button displayed at the bottom of the screen, thus leaving the Email and Calendar tabs accessible. You then only have to select a new draft from the dedicated button to reopen it in full screen.
Microsoft specifies that this new feature is already available in beta for Android users running version 4.2447.0 or later of the application, and via TestFlight on iPhones running version 4.2449.0 or later of Outlook.
This new feature should nevertheless arrive very quickly for all users, its deployment having only just begun on the stable version of Outlook. As with every deployment, Microsoft specifies that it is proceeding gradually to ensure that everything works properly for everyone. You will therefore have to be a little patient before seeing this new feature arrive on your mobile.
