Palworld is going to catch up with PUBG in the most played game race

Pals are more than ever the center of attention for players. The little creatures of the game Pocketpair continue to make headlines. After reaching a new sales milestone that is dizzying to say the least with 8 million units sold in just one week of existence, Palworld is dethroning the big names on the Steam platform one by one. Pals trainers are more and more numerous and are propelling the title towards new horizons. For the moment, PUBG is the biggest success on Steam with a peak in players reaching 3,257,248, a statistic established before the game's formula went free-to-play.

However, the rise of Palworld seems unstoppable and could well leave the battle royale on the sidelines in the coming weeks. Just two hours before the writing of these lines, the atypical monster-tamer reached a peak of 2,033,118 concurrent players. This feat makes Palworld the second game in Steam history to surpass the 2 million player mark. Counter-Strike 2 (formerly Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) sits at third place on the podium with a record 1,818,733 players. The success of Palworld is also expressed on the Xbox ecosystem, on which the title exceeded the number of players of Fortnite in the United States earlier this week. Unfortunately, this historic performance of the title in early access could well cost it its future.

Competitors' concerns

In order to reassure the community about the future of the game, Pocketpair published its first official roadmap in the middle of the week. The developers promise regular fixes for the most important bugs, as well as improvements to come very soon for the artificial intelligence of the Pals and the allocation of keyboard keys. The more distant updates will be an opportunity to enrich the adventure for a more complete experience. PvP, raid bosses, arena, cross-play and new creatures will strengthen the already solid foundations of the title. But is this future even achievable?

Face to face With its newfound fame and ever more surprising sales, Palworld is now in the crosshairs of the Pokémon Company. Such a giant of the video game industry is in a position to put an end to the existence of the title. The organization of an investigation concerning the similar 3D models of certain creatures is presented as the first step in a legal process capable of stopping the development and marketing of Palworld in its tracks. The conclusions of this investigation will therefore be closely monitored.
