After the long-awaited Game Awards and the Steam Awards, it's PlayStation's turn to launch its votes to determine its players' favorite titles. All the votes have already been counted, all that remains is to debrief the results, which are once again unanimous. 18 categories are represented, so there's just as much chance of winning an award. Among the 4 nominees, who was awarded the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies?
As in the previous year, when God of War Ragnarök had won almost all the prizes, one game stands out more than the others. It is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Released on PS5 last October, it achieved both critical and commercial success, before being nominated for the Game Awards in the Game of the Year category. Although it didn't win, to the benefit of Baldur's Gate 3, the game is largely making up for it among PlayStation players alone. Here are all the awards it has won:
- Best PS5 Game
- Best New Character (Venom)
- Best Story
- Best PlayStation Graphics Showcase
- Best Audio Design
- Soundtrack of the Year
- Best Accessibility Features
- Best Use of the DualSense Controller
The rest of the rankings have a bit more diversity, which is really nice to see. The PS4 Game of the Year title goes to Hogwarts Legacy, which made a big impression despite a late arrival. Alan Wake 2 scoops the well-deserved award for best artistic direction. It must be said that its graphic bias, as well as its gameplay elements, also allowed it to qualify for the Game Awards.
But where is Baldur’s Gate 3? For PlayStation players, the GOTY 2023 only managed to impose itself in one category, namely that of the best multiplayer experience. In the world of virtual reality, it is the excellent Resident Evil Village which wins the award. Obviously, the best expansion goes to Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty, a much-anticipated revival that hit the mark.
GTA VI has a special place
How can we talk about the year that has just passed without mentioning the one to come? In the category of the most anticipated games, we could have imagined the victory of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But the next PS5 exclusive only comes in second place in the polls. Indeed, PlayStation players are more numerous in waiting for GTA 6, which nevertheless has a release date set for 2025 for the moment (and at best). We can already see its impact on the entire video game industry, more than 10 years after the release of GTA 5.
