PlayStation takes out a v2 of its dualsense without warning anyone

For a few hours now, a new PlayStation product has been listed on reseller sites. It is apparently a new model of DualSense, the PS5 controller sold with the console. It is equipped with a “V2” already visible on the stores, but with little - if any - precision on its new features. All we know officially is that the accessory will be available for sale from January 12. However, it could fulfill the wish of millions of players by having a much better battery life than the basic product.

Greater battery life

The DualSense V2 is visible in more detail on Best Buy Canada where some characteristics jump out at us. The product sheet states in particular that the battery life will increase from 8 to 12 hours. This is not a revolution, we grant you, but it will allow you to recharge your device less between two games. Indeed, the battery of the controller has always been one of its biggest disadvantages, the DualSense Edge does nothing to improve the situation.

But the biggest difference lies in the weight of the controller. The DualSense would thus go from 360g to 280g. How did the firm achieve this weight loss? No one is yet able to say, but it should considerably improve the already excellent handling of the accessory. It will thus be one of the lightest controllers on the market, which is not negligible for health reasons (tendinitis in particular).

Why a DualSense V2?

This is not the first time that Sony has changed one of its devices without warning the population. Indeed, since its release 3 years ago, the PS5 itself has received a few modified versions, replacing the old ones very discreetly. Only the internal components change, and are optimized for more sustainable use after the release of the accessory, as a game could benefit from an update. The price remains unchanged, so the controller is still displayed at 69.99 euros.

Contrary to what the rumors say, the presence of the DualSense V2 does not mean that any PS5 Pro is coming. For the moment, Sony has communicated absolutely nothing on this subject, and it is not in the firm's habits to prepare in advance, discreetly, its big console releases. Other rumors still claim that a new DualSense, with new features, would also be on the way. However, we doubt that such a product will see the light of day without an associated console. No doubt we will have to be patient before discovering it.
