PlayStation gamers have just had a particularly frustrating weekend. Those who wanted to play EA Sports FC 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 or single-player games with mandatory connection online have had the unpleasant surprise of seeing that the PlayStation Network was out of service. The outage started on the night of Friday, February 7 to Saturday, February 8.
The service was still inoperative throughout the first day of the weekend, prompting Sony to finally publish a press release to explain the situation to players. “We are aware that some users are currently experiencing problems with PSN”, simply wrote the PlayStation France account on X on Saturday, January 8 at 2:55 p.m. after more than 12 hours of outage. The situation finally returned to normal during the night from Saturday to Sunday. To make up for it, Sony is making a small gesture towards PS Plus subscribers.
Five days of free subscription to PS Plus subscribers following the PSN outage
PlayStation players have been able to play online again since Sunday morning around 1 a.m. In its post announcing the long-awaited return of the service, the Japanese company states that it will provide a small compensation to all PS Plus subscribers.
“Our network services have been fully restored after an operational problem. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically benefit from five additional days of subscription,” writes PlayStation France on X. Your PS Plus subscription is therefore renewing a little later than expected. You don't need to do anything to take advantage of these five days of subscriptions offered by Sony.
A small gesture enough to ease the frustration of those who had to give up their online games for the whole day on Saturday? Hard to say. In any case, non-PlayStation players who have also suffered this outage do not hesitate to share their anger under the publication.
Indeed, fans of titles allowing online play without a PS Plus subscription, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, feel cheated. The same goes for those who were unable to enjoy single-player software requiring a mandatory Internet connection.
Unfortunately, Sony has not responded to their complaints, suggesting that they will not receive any compensation. In any case, this PSN outage, which was particularly long, once again shows the dependence of players on online services.
