Ready or not, the functions of Apple Intelligence in beta will be activated by default

Apple is now sure of its move: after a short warm-up, Apple Intelligence is ready and it is time for all users to jump into the deep end of generative AI! Since their launch last October, these features have required prior activation by the user.

Is Apple Intelligence really ready?

This will no longer be the case with the final versions of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3: once the iPhone, iPad or Mac are updated, Apple Intelligence will be enabled by default. Of course, it will be possible to disable it in the settings. But this change is significant; on the one hand, because these AI functions take up a lot of storage space, and until proven otherwise, all of this is still in beta.

And some of these functions are clearly not up to scratch, like the summaries of multiple notifications that generate “fake news”! Apple has also temporarily disabled these summaries for news and entertainment applications, and revised the display of notifications generated by AI (the text is now in italics).

The other functions are less problematic, even if Apple is only just catching up a little in the face of much more active competition: creation of Genmoji (personalized emojis that will also arrive on Mac with macOS 15.3), Image Playground to generate ugly images, Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16, writing assistance tools, access to ChatGPT from Siri, etc.

The final versions of iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 will be available in the coming days. However, it should be noted that to be able to use Apple Intelligence, a device must be in English; iPhones and iPads are still deprived of these functions in Europe (it is planned for April). On the other hand, European Mac users can already use them, but only in English.
