Samsung also works on a smartphone ready to fold in three

The overwhelming majority of users are happy with a single-screen smartphone, but some prefer dual-screen foldables, which are now well established. Others aim even bigger, and are no longer satisfied with a smartphone that can just fold in two; they want one that folds in three.

The Mate XT as inspiration

Huawei has made their dream come true a few weeks ago with the Mate XT. This model, necessarily atypical, has amazed us; and it has also reminded Samsung and Apple that it is always possible to innovate. Failing to have done it first, the Korean firm should copy its Chinese competitor.

This is what a Korean media outlet reports (via PhoneArena), according to which Samsung aims to market such a smartphone in the course of 2025. Only to get one, you risk having to bend over backwards, or pay a sum with perhaps as many zeros (in euros); come on, or one less, let's think small in case of doubt.

The name and design of the device are well secret for the moment. But according to the source, Samsung is planning to produce around 300,000 copies of its triptych. For comparison, the AndroidPolice site lists 34.66 million S24s sold (all models combined) in 2024, and 4.9 million Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 (roughly the same order of magnitude for the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, namely 5.2 million).

Very limited availability

As is often the case with such a stunted offer, to which will be added the complexity of producing such a device, and of course the inflation of innovation, the sale price would be well inflated. The source does not risk disclosing a precise amount, but speaks of a "much higher sum" than that required for the Z Flip 6, whose base price was around 2000 euros in our country when it was released. As for the Huawei Mate XT, let's point out that in gross conversion, without taxes, its price exceeds 2500 euros. And this additional cost is only part of the problem. Indeed, this model will probably not leave Asia.

In any case, Samsung is targeting the second half of this year for its three-part folding smartphone. But as you will have understood, it will in no way overshadow the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 in Europe.

As for the characteristics, very little information on this subject for the moment. The only indiscretion is a diagonal of approximately 12.4 inches with the three flaps unfolded. The device would therefore be larger than the Mate XT, the latter not exceeding 10.2 inches.
