A smartphone with one fold is good, but a smartphone with two folds is even better. The site The Elec, which has good sources at Samsung, announces that the manufacturer would like to launch such a device in the third quarter — this summer. Production would be limited to a batch of 200,000 units, due to a particularly steep price.
Folding in all directions
This is of course not the first time that indiscretions announce a Samsung smartphone that folds in three. The Korean manufacturer, which brought the folding market to the baptismal font, was beaten to the punch by Huawei in this very specific segment with the Mate XT. A very intriguing (and overpriced) device that mainly serves as a technical demonstration.
Samsung would however go in a different direction than Huawei, since the two hinges would fold inwards, hiding a large screen of around ten inches. The model would actually resemble the prototype shown by the company during MWC 2023 (below). The Mate XT has a hinge that folds inwards and another that folds outwards.
This “tri-fold” would obviously not be the only folding smartphone that Samsung would unveil this summer, as the company has been doing for several years. In the group's bag, there would also be, unsurprisingly, the seventh generation of the Galaxy Z Fold and the Z Flip, as well as a more mysterious Galaxy Z Flip SE. Last October, the manufacturer launched a special edition of the Galaxy Z Fold (but not the Flip).
