Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra: everything you really need to know

Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra: everything you really need to know

Samsung has just presented the Galaxy S25, a series composed of three ambitious new smartphones. After having placed the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and especially the Galaxy S24 Ultra among the market references, Samsung wants to stay the course with this highly anticipated series. Like last year, the South Korean brand's speech is strongly oriented towards artificial intelligence and Galaxy AI. The theme pleases the manufacturer a lot, but other interesting new features are present to thwart the plans of an ever fiercer competition. So, what does the Samsung Galaxy S25 have in store for us? We tell you everything in this complete recap.

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is finally evolving

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may be among the best smartphones of 2024, but its design is far from unanimous. Many find Samsung's flagship too massive and rectangular, due to overly angular corners that can hinder handling. The brand is making changes in 2025 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, without completely revolutionizing the style.

The new design gives way to flatter edges and more rounded corners. Adjustments that aim to erase its rough side and would improve the handling of Samsung's flagship model. After much hesitation, the company has found a way to round off the corners of the Galaxy S25 Ultra without losing the stylus.

The adjustments made by the manufacturer make it possible to accommodate a very slightly larger screen (6.9 inches compared to 6.8 inches for the S24 Ultra).

Flatter (but with more rounded edges), the Galaxy S25 Ultra is closer to its little brothers

On the back, the camera block opts for a style closer to the Galaxy Z Fold6 with modules circled in black. A discreet change since Samsung keeps the same location for the different sensors of its smartphone.

Concerning the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, the little brothers demonstrate a certain continuity. The changes are subtle, but the Galaxy S25 is more compact (146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2 mm) compared to the Galaxy S24 (147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm). Same story for the Galaxy S25+ (158 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm instead of 158.5 x 75.9 x 7.7 mm for the S24+).

Both models are also a few grams lighter: 162g for the Galaxy S25 versus 167g for the S24 and 190g for the S25+ (196g for the S24). Note that the few design changes do not result in changes in screen sizes for the two devices, namely 6.2 inches for the S25 and 6.7 inches for the S25 Plus.

Much more power for Galaxy AI?

Samsung regularly changes its strategy regarding the chips that equip the Galaxy S. The brand has a habit of varying the pleasures by offering models under Snapdragon and others under Exynos. It was thought that the manufacturer would end this relationship when it decided to abandon Exynos chips in favor of Snapdragon globally in 2023. A choice appreciated by critics and users, but which ultimately only lasted as long as the Galaxy S23.

When it launched the Galaxy S24, Samsung offered Snapdragon versions in some markets and Exynos in others. In France, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus have Exynos 2400 chips while the Ultra version benefits from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. And for the Galaxy S25?

All models are equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite. Engraved in 3 nm, the powerful SoC brings interesting improvements compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. True to its habits, the manufacturer even offers an optimized “for Galaxy” version that is slightly more powerful – on paper – than the base chip.

The Galaxy S25 also benefits from increasing its amount of RAM and storage. The brand now offers 12 GB of RAM on its base model (compared to 8 GB on the Galaxy S24). The storage part now extends to 512 GB on the Galaxy S25, with still 128 GB and 256 GB versions. Only the Galaxy S25 Ultra is available in a version with 1 TB of internal storage.

Photo improvements for the Galaxy S25 Ultra

Once again, all eyes are on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the flagship is entitled to interesting developments. It retains its 200MP main sensor (f/1.7), the 50MP periscopic telephoto lens (5x optical zoom) introduced last year and the 10MP 3x telephoto lens. Despite some persistent rumors, the "classic" telephoto lens is not changing this year.

On the other hand, the ultra wide-angle goes to 50 Mpx (compared to 12 Mpx on the Galaxy S24 Ultra) and there are changes for the video. Indeed, all photo modules are now capable of filming in 8K at 30 fps or 4K at 60 fps and the Galaxy LOG makes its appearance. This should please content creators, since this format offers more flexibility in post-production. These new photo developments should allow Samsung to compete with the Chinese competition and Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Regarding the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, there are no hardware changes and we will have to wait to see the impact of software improvements. On both models, there is a 50 Mpx main sensor (f / 1.8, optical stabilization), a 10 Mpx telephoto lens with x3 optical zoom (f / 2.4, optical stabilization) and a 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle (f / 2.2).

Battery: the revolution will wait

The battery is not the most "sexy" subject, but there is a change with the appearance of silicon-carbon batteries. The technology has a lot of potential, but it is not current at Samsung. The manufacturer is playing it safe by not making much progress in battery capacity and fast charging.

The Galaxy S25 retains a 4000 mAh battery while the Galaxy S25 Plus remains on a 4900 mAh battery. The same goes for the Galaxy S25 Ultra which offers a 5000 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging (like the Galaxy S25+). The flagship model still improves its wireless charging to 25 W and Qi2 technology, compared to 15 W on the S24 Ultra (Qi).

On the Galaxy S25, you have to make do with wired charging stuck at 25 W. Despite the lack of developments, the autonomy could evolve thanks to the other changes made by the manufacturer. The move to the Snapdragon 8 Elite will have an impact on the battery life of the new range compared to the previous one.

One UI 7 (Android 15)

The entire range comes directly with the OneUI 7 interface based on Android 15. It brings new AI features that Samsung began to mention when the beta version was made official. This update promises to be one of the most important and confirms that the new features are mainly software-related at Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra: everything you really need to know

After launching Galaxy AI last year, Samsung is promising new "powerful features" that leverage AI and simplified controls. This new version is also an opportunity to offer a visual overhaul of the interface, whether for application icons, the photo application or even notification bubbles. As for AI, One UI 7 plans to integrate advanced AI agents and multimodal capabilities. In our hands-on, we were already able to discover the “Cross-App” actions. This feature uses AI to recognize what you are doing and launch actions accordingly.

Galaxy AI features will be updated to improve performance. For example, writing assistance tools will be accessible anywhere and as soon as text is selectable. All the new features of OneUI 7 are covered in our dedicated article:

Prices are not changing
