It's now official: you no longer need to show your ID card and train ticket during a check on board an SNCF train. You can now simply use France Identité. The mobile application, which began testing the integration of SNCF tickets into its application a few weeks ago, has just extended it to all its users.
A QR Code to combine ID cards and transport tickets
France Titres worked closely with the Agence nationale des titres sécurisés and SNCF Voyageurs to offer this simplified solution to SNCF users. It took almost a year to create this secure system allowing SNCF users to prove their identity and their transport ticket to inspectors.
In concrete terms, the information contained in this QR Code is limited to what is strictly necessary to allow SNCF inspectors to verify that you are in compliance. This therefore includes your surname, first name and date of birth, as well as the data associated with your transport ticket.
However, this solution is only valid on board TGV INOUI and intercity trains with reservations. It is therefore aimed particularly at regular users who have an SNCF advantage card or a specific subscription.
A simplified, but still limited solution
The integration of this new solution is good news for SNCF users. But the use of France Identité is still very limited on a national scale. Because while France Identité claims some 1.5 million users, the application can only be used if you have an identity card or a driving license in credit card format. In an attempt to accelerate the adoption of its application, France Identité had however announced that it would be possible, from the beginning of 2025, to request an early renewal of your identity card. To do this, you must specify as a reason the fact that you wish to obtain a digital identity.
