Sony never stops adapting the games that have been released on its consoles. While the God of War and Horizon series are in preparation, the company has announced the adaptation of a particularly popular horror game, this time on the big screen. It is Until Dawn that will have the honor of joining the cinemas in a film that is already shaping up to be promising, as relayed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Released in 2015, the title from Supermassive Games had touched players thanks to its constant interactivity. Inspired by traditional slasher movies, Until Dawn declined the concept with a teenage plot and a mysterious atmosphere. In the game, we play in turn the members of a group of young people gone on vacation, whose turn will turn out to be dramatic. A masked killer decides to take them against him, threatening their lives until the end of the game.
Like The Quarry which comes to us from the same studio, Until Dawn is a game already worthy of an interactive film. The title is very focused on cinematics, and presents almost perfect motion captures of their interpreters. The most interesting thing for Sony will be to adapt the story of the game, which actually changes after each choice of the users. The film will have to adopt a more linear style and give up the interactivity which made the success of the license. Will the chills be there? It remains to be seen what the result will be.
Already some confirmed names
Behind the project, we find Gary Dauberman, who gave birth to the horror hits Annabelle, Ça and The Nun. David F. Sandberg will work alongside him, after having contributed to the film Annabelle: Creation of Evil. It is reassuring to see that the project is in the hands of people experienced in the field of horror.
As for the casting, we do not yet know who will join him. We doubt that the game's will make a big comeback since it is supposed to be a teenage work, or at least a young adult. Some of the actors who participated in the filming of Until Dawn (the game) could no longer correspond to the selection criteria, if these latter turn out to be the same as those of the film. For all we know, everything could very well be turned upside down by Sony.
In the video game, we were treated to motion captures of Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere and Jordan Fisher. A prestigious cast that we would like to see again on the big screen, although that would mean the end of the surprise effect. For the moment, no date or other information has been shared, so we will have to be patient before learning more about the project.
