On May 30, Sony inaugurated the Summer Game Fest before it even began. The company organized its summer State of Play a week before the opening of the digital show so as not to do like everyone else, and especially not to find itself in the continuous flow of announcements. But here's the thing, we shouldn't expect a crazy event.
Sony had already warned us that no big game from an existing PlayStation franchise would be released during this fiscal year. No God of War, Uncharted, Horizon, Ratchet & Clank or even Spider-Man before March 2025 at the very least. So we already knew that this year's summer State of Play would be much quieter than usual.
However, we were treated to a few interesting little surprises, which are important to highlight. Here are the 3 announcements that we should remember from the State of Play on May 30.
Astro Bot
4 years after the release of the PS5, we will find its mascot in a brand new game. Astro Bot is announced as a new adventure title featuring the cute little robot who teaches us how to use the DualSense controller. This opus will be developed by Team Asobi, and will transport us to a paradise world. The first gameplay images show us flight sequences on a motorized machine and adventures on the ground.
We imagine that the level of optimization of the PS5 and its controller will be as accomplished as for Astro’s Playroom. Visually, in any case, we find familiar landscapes, mechanics and enemies, all with a soundtrack that's great. It will be available on September 6 on the console.
Concord
The State of Play has lifted the veil on a new shooter game third-person shooter set in a futuristic universe. Concord offers you a wide selection of terrains, hosting several of the most popular PvP game modes among players. Teams are made up of 5 players and each protagonist has their own abilities, in the manner of Overwatch finally. Freegunners come from all corners of the galaxy and can belong to completely different races from each other. The game will be accessible at from August 23rd on PS5 and PC.
God of War Ragnarök
While the PSVR 2 announcements have been more or less disappointing, PC gamers are not left out. Sony has announced that the next title to benefit from a port is none other than God of War Ragnarök. This news was obviously the logical continuation of which we could expect after the release of Horizon Forbidden West on PC. For the occasion, the latest GoW opus will of course be optimized for the most powerful machines, with unlocked features and even cleaner image rendering than on the console version. The firm gives us an appointment on September 19 to discover it.
