Test Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 Dex: The game mouse made by your hand

Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX. Yes, it's long, but it's the full name of this new gaming mouse recently launched by the Swiss manufacturer.

And it doesn't come out of nowhere since in reality, it comes from a small line of very unique mice at Logitech, the lightweight and ultra-high-performance models. After a G Pro Wireless in 2018 (80 grams) then a G Pro X Superlight in 2020 (63 grams) and a G Pro X Superlight 2 in 2023, here is the descendant which... weighs the same as the latter: 60 grams. It’s hard to shave off this aspect any more.

But this new iteration has especially added the DEX inscription to its name, which redefines everything. DEX stands for dexterity. Not content with offering a featherweight, Logitech also wants its mouse to be as comfortable as possible. And knowing the manufacturer’s prowess in terms of ergonomics on its mice (see the MX Master 3S), we have a little idea of the result. Here is our test of the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX

Une question de main

DEX, dexterity and dextre. To understand this revision of the Superlight 2, you must first take out your Gaffiot and look up dexter. In Latin, it is the translation of the right. Also, left-handers are not welcome with this mouse. And yes, unlike its predecessors, it is only for right-handed people.

A choice that will not please everyone, but it was necessary to go through this to be able to touch its morphology so that it adapts to a better grip. By wanting to do everything, we do everything halfway. Logitech has taken the bull by the horns. We'll see below if it pays off.

For left-handers, there's the Pro 2 Lightspeed

In the meantime, if you are left-handed, don't go sulking. The brand hasn't forgotten you and has simultaneously released the Pro 2 Lightspeed. This one is perfectly ambidextrous. A feature that increases its weight to 80 grams.

It also has twice as many edge buttons as the DEX. These are removable, a feature inherited from the G900, and you can remove them or use only two or four, depending on your mood. Its profile is flatter and without ergonomic volume.

In these respects, it ultimately takes up the torch of the Logitech G Pro Wireless from 2018 with a few modifications:

  • new Hero 2 sensor with 44,000 DPI (available via update on the G Pro Wireless),
  • max speed of 888 fps versus 400 fps previously,
  • max acceleration of 88 G versus 40 G on the 2018 G Pro,
  • improved battery life: 95h without backlighting, 60h with, versus 60h and 48h for the G Pro Wireless. Data for an exchange frequency with the computer of 1000 Hz (1 ms).

A nice update billed at 140 euros all the same, or 10 euros more than the G Pro Wireless when it was released.

A perfect curve

As said above, the Pro X Superlight 2 DEX no longer moves its weight. It must be said that it has already been copiously reduced in the past. A phenomenon that has gone through a break with the removal of removable buttons, the backlighting of the logo and the LEDs indicating the active sensitivity. So many concessions to pick up every gram. Light is right, said Colin Chapman, Logitech is pursuing the same dream.

An ultra-light mouse means you don't feel muscle fatigue in your wrist or forearm even after a very long gaming session. This is undoubtedly a crucial point for esports players or streamers. However, it should be noted that the feeling of a 60 gram mouse is quite unusual. You may feel like it is floating, that you are not in complete control of it. An adaptation period is necessary since you are most often used to heavier mice.

A featherweight then and it must be recognized that modifying a mouse fairing without changing its weight one iota is a feat in itself. As we said, Logitech wanted this Pro X Superlight 2 DEX and its user to become one.

This is how we have a mouse with an asymmetrical curve. The curvature of the thumb is respected as well as a well-rounded back to fit the palm without pressure or void. Last major modification, the front face gently dips to the right in order to respect a natural alignment of the fingers. A grip that we clearly feel inherited from Logitech's engineering on its office range and that we already encountered on the G502 X, for example.

And as for this one or the MX Master 3S, to name but a few, the grip of this Pro X Superlight 2 DEX is perfect and extremely natural. Be careful, this observation is valid for small and medium-sized hands. The measurements of the mouse remain reduced: 125.8 x 67.7 x 43.9 mm.

And let's talk positioning. Thanks to its very low weight, the Logitech mouse respects the advantage of its elders, namely that it is able to be grasped by all types of grips: Palm Grip, Claw Grip and Fingertip.

The main criticism on the handling of this mouse concerns its support. Its surface is absolutely smooth. Remember the hunt for grams. And to respect this, no grip is applied. In fact, as it is, it will not suit everyone. Logitech also recognizes this since by searching in its packaging, we find a 3M grip sheet to install yourself on the mouse. Joy or sadness, we do not know what to think. It’s always good to take, but a basic grippy texture would have solved the problem more nicely.

On the button side, we’re dealing with the new LightForce switches. They combine optical and mechanical technology, providing responsiveness and an ultra-fast click sensation while maintaining a satisfying mechanical texture with a nice click when triggered. On the other hand, they probably require more pressure weight than the competition. For the edge buttons, the trigger length is a bit higher. It's a habit to take, but we clearly have two approaches between the two pairs of buttons on this mouse.

Small observation, after two weeks of use, we are already starting to see a disappearance of the grain on the main buttons. They will become smooth in the long run.

The wheel, for its part, responds well and is much more flexible and less notched than that of a G502X, for example.

Finally, on the back, we find the sensor, the button power-on and wide Teflon skates that offer a decent glide, but that the most precise players will replace with more efficient models.

Our opinion on performance

The Pro X Superlight 2 DEX is equipped with the second generation Hero optical sensor, a model that is not brand new, but that Logitech was able to improve via a software update on this model but also on the Pro X Superlight 2 which therefore shares the same performance.

It is capable of handling an acceleration of 40G, a speed of 500 inches per second and has a maximum sensitivity of 44,000 DPI (dots per inch). An extremely high figure that I have never teased.

It all depends on your playing style. A player who has a very short travel will appreciate a high sensitivity. But even then, professional gamers typically run between 1600 and 2800 DPI.

The G Hub software allows you to set up three profiles that you can switch between. But unfortunately, the bare bones of the Pro X Superlight 2 DEX mean that there is no button for this, unless you sacrifice a key edge. Too bad since the original G Pro Wireless had one placed next to its sensor. Discreet, but very present.

The Superlight 2 DEX also has a polling rate of 8000 Hz that we are entitled to thanks to a recent update. This rate of polling the mouse with the PC reduces latency in games, but consumes a lot of resources, particularly at the CPU level and nibbles away at the mouse's battery life. To be reserved for competitive players if your PC is not a lightning war.

In game, the Logitech mouse proves to be very efficient. I was able to test its value both in solo and in multiplayer with Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun, Destiny 2 and especially on some Counter-Strike 2 maps. Lowering the sensitivity in game and increasing the DPI is already a good base. Here, we have a mouse that responds instantly and allows you to no longer question the hardware.

A simple and effective software

As usual, Logitech supports its G-badged product with its G Hub software. This allows you to manage your mouse efficiently and without losing the user too much in the settings.

It's even quite basic and that's not a bad thing. Stripped down like the Superlight 2 DEX itself. In G Hub, you can adjust its sensitivity profiles (x and y), the take-off level, its polling frequency or even remap all the buttons with macros or alternative commands. No RGB sheet here, the Superlight 2 DEX is a performance model that does not bother with neon effects.

On the other hand, there is a very appreciable option, it is the calibration of the Hero sensor. If you already have a Logitech mouse, you can completely recover its usual sensitivity to the DPI via a calibration system that requires placing the mice side by side and moving them at the same time. Empirical, but it works wonderfully.

Autonomie plus ou moins longue

To be so light, the Superlight 2 DEX does not have to be encumbered by a battery like the G305. In fact, it does not reach 250 hours of autonomy like it. Logitech uses a small lithium-ion battery. This provides an autonomy that depends greatly on the communication frequency of the mouse, as explained above. The more precise we are, the less autonomy we will have.

Logitech announces the best result of 95 hours, but that is when the mouse is set to 1000 Hz. At 8000 Hz, it drops to just over 20 hours and in between, it is 35 hours at 4000 Hz.

Recharging, meanwhile, is being modernized. Exit microUSB, we finally have USB-C! It's surprising that Logitech took so long to get up to speed, but it's finally here. Allow about two hours for a full charge. A small downside is that the cable provided is not braided. At this price, details count.

Next to this, there is a USB-C to USB-A adapter that allows you to connect the LightSpeed dongle to the end of the extension so that it is as close as possible to the mouse for optimal communication.

Price and availability of the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 DEX

Logitech G does not do things by halves and displays its Superlight 2 DEX at 170 euros. This is a substantial price, but within the range of this category. The brand is aimed here at professional or demanding gamers. Opposite it, we find the Razr DeathAdder V3 Pro at 190 euros or the WLMouse Beast X Max at 170 euros also.

It is important to keep in mind that this is not a very versatile mouse (few buttons) and that it is mainly aimed at competition.
