The end of the Xbox 360 blind approach: Buy your last games quickly!

The end of the Xbox 360 blind approach: Buy your last games quickly!

A page is turning in the video game industry. Since the advent of dematerialized content on game consoles, the end of life of platforms has never been felt so much. The closure of servers and online stores marks the disappearance of certain exclusive titles among other downloadable content. Preserving the integrity of games is no longer as simple as it was in previous generations. If it is enough to change a backup battery to revive certain Gameboy Advance titles, what about modern productions with complete locked content? behind a season pass?

The question of video game preservation is an increasingly virulent debate within gaming communities, and more broadly within the industry itself. The closure of the 3DS and Wii U servers last April did not fail to make a lot of noise, and it is now Microsoft's turn to bury one of its consoles. This Monday, July 29, the Xbox 360 store will close its doors for good, almost 20 years after the console's launch. It will then no longer be possible to purchase games and DLC from this platform. With the deadline fast approaching, the Redmond firm is inviting its users to make arrangements. But what will happen to your digital purchases after the shutdown?

Two ways to enjoy your digital games

On Xbox 360, players will be able to continue to enjoy their titles, even online if the servers in question are still active. Certain features such as downloading and updating will also remain accessible. To do this, users will have to go to the console settings, then to the “Account” tab and “Download History” to find their purchases. In short, only the store will now be inaccessible.

Gamers equipped with Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles will be able to enjoy backward compatible titles directly from these modern platforms. Saves stored in the cloud will be automatically transferred for greater simplicity. As for adding codes to the store, backward compatible content codes will remain activatable on Xbox One and Xbox Series, while the others must be activated on 360 before July 29.

Movies and series also saved

Players will be able to continue watching movies and series purchased via the Movies & TV app, directly on Xbox 360 as well as on Xbox One, Xbox Series, Windows 10 and Windows 11. The Redmond firm warns, however, that even if game downloads remain active, it will no longer be possible to redownload applications. So be sure to You must have the Movies & TV app installed on your Xbox 360 before July 29th.
