Since Jim Ryan's departure in March 2024, the situation has been a bit confusing on the PlayStation side. In a rush, the Japanese company announced last June that Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino had been appointed co-CEOs of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). We knew that this was temporary while waiting to see a little more clearly. Today, it is now official, it is indeed Hideaki Nishino who will govern alone.
PlayStation finds a stable hierarchy
It is now official, As of April 1, 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment will have only one CEO and it will be Hideaki Nishino, who has been at Sony for 25 years now. For his part, Hermen Hulst returns to his role as head of the Studio Business Group division. Sony's goal is to "maximize synergies across SIE".
The group announces other changes, namely the appointment of Lin Tao, the current vice president of strategy and development at SIE, will become the new CFO of Sony Group Corporation as of April 1, 2025. As well as Hiroki Totoki, the current CFO and COO of Sony Group Corporation, will become CEO of the group on the same date.
A little over a year after Jim Ryan's departure, PlayStation has regained stability and a clear hierarchy to get back on the right track. It must be said that these last few months have not been very quiet with a lot of upheaval and very questionable strategic choices with the cancellation of countless games.
Hermen Hulst thus returns to the direction of the development, publishing and commercial operations of SIE's first party content (PlayStation Studios). He is also responsible for the development of games on many devices, including PlayStation consoles and PCs, and for the introduction of video game intellectual property on new media via PlayStation Productions. We hope that great things are to come with a return of PlayStation to the top in the coming months.
