The new teacher Layton is postponed but reveals his gameplay

As 2023 draws to a close, Japanese studio LEVEL5 has just followed up on its Vision live presentation broadcast last March. The first virtual conference revealed the development of a slew of new titles, including some of the firm's most popular licenses. Inazuma Eleven, Fantasy Life, Megaton Musashi and a newcomer named DecaPolice were all present at this event. However, the audience's attention was primarily focused on the return of a guest brand: that of the great Professor Layton.

Today, LEVEL5 returned to these announcements to give some news concerning their development. Unfortunately, this live broadcast was crowned with a lot of postponements. No production is spared, but these delays are for a good cause. Not wishing to rush the release of the games in order to ensure a level of quality worthy of expectations, the studio formally apologized for the inconvenience caused. While you will have to be patient before getting your hands on these titles, new excerpts allow you to learn a little more about the experiences to come.

Professor Layton more gentleman than ever

Three minutes of gameplay are enough to make your mouth water. For this first episode published outside of DS and 3DS (with the exception of Layton's Adventure and a few mobile games), the Switch's HD capabilities are used to make the exploration and puzzle scenes shine. The animations are beautiful, the sets detailed and the new models of the Professor and Luke seem to come straight out of an animated film.

The riddle presented in this excerpt suggests that the console's touch screen will be put to good use, a feature that has been too often overlooked since the console's launch. Professor Layton and the New World on steam will no longer be coming to Switch in 2024, but in 2025. Does this decision reveal a possible backwards compatibility with Nintendo's future console? It's up to follow.

And in 2024 then?

Layton and Luke will not be the only ones absent next year. The promising DecaPolice, halfway between Ace Attorney and an action RPG no longer has a fixed release window. If LEVEL5 indicates “during 2024 at the earliest“, the studio wants to make this license an ambitious open world with many intrigues, which therefore requires an extended development time.

Inazuma Eleven Victory Road will benefit from an online beta in March 2024 to test multiplayer matches. Fantasy Life i that LEVEL5 promised for 2023, will finally benefit from a launch in the summer 2024. Finally, Megaton Musashi is the only one to benefit from a real release date, scheduled for April 25.
