Available since Friday, Astro Bot is a huge critical success with the press (with a score of 94% on MetaCritic, and a nice 10/10 from us). It is a huge success that seems (almost) unanimous with players as well, something that is increasingly rare, especially for an exclusive. As soon as the game was released, we learned that it would be entitled to DLC and updates to add new levels, including challenges and "Die & Retry" courses. Today, it seems that the next themes and cameos are hiding in the game's credits and concept art!
Twisted Metal, Fat Princess, Rise of the Ronin and more to come!
Astro Bot already has more than 150 cameos and references to cult video game licenses. Whether it's exclusive licenses like Ratchet & Clank, inFamous, God of War, Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Horizon, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter or the late Days Gone. But we also have the right to references to cult series in the history of video games with Tomb Raider, Yakuza, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Metal Gear Solid.
Clearly, Team Asobi is still preparing other robot cameos with characters and licenses that are mentioned in the credits and that are visible in the game's concept art, but which do not appear in the game. This is the case for Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, Rayman, Croc and even Worms in terms of general licenses. For exclusives, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin are also on the list.
But that's not all. If we look this time at the concept art of the game, our colleagues at VGC noticed that a bot Fat Princess or even Sweet Tooth (from the Twisted Metal franchise) are present alongside the other bots, but that they are clearly absent from the game.
Can this mean that these next bots will arrive through the next DLCs and updates? Will these future contents (which should be free) be scheduled according to current events? As a reminder, we recently learned that a remake of Croc was in the works to arrive at the end of the year on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This would therefore be the perfect time to include the little crocodile in Astro Bot, in parallel with the release of the remake.
For the moment, it is far too early to confirm anything. The only thing that is certain is that Team Asobi has not finished surprising us and that things are planned for the coming weeks. We can't wait!
