The OnePlus Open 2 could establish a new record for a folding smartphone

As foldable smartphones gain popularity, the OnePlus Open 2, the successor to the aptly named OnePlus Open, could set the standard by offering record-breaking thinness and premium materials like titanium.

An ultra-thin and robust OnePlus Open

The OnePlus Open 2, which could launch between March and June 2025 globally, is said to be the thinnest foldable on the market. According to reputable leakers, including Smart Pikachu and Digital Chat Station, the phone would adopt a titanium construction. This choice of material would make it both light and resistant, while allowing it to reach a record thickness of under 9 mm, thus beating the HONOR Magic V3.

In addition to its design, the OnePlus Open 2 would integrate cutting-edge technical features. It would be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a triple photo system signed Hasselblad with periscope lens, as well as a 6000 mAh battery. The addition of wireless charging and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance would correct the shortcomings of the first model.

A strategic calendar for OnePlus in 2025

The launch of the OnePlus Open 2 in the spring would follow that of the Oppo Find N5 (its Chinese version), scheduled for February 2025. If this schedule is confirmed, OnePlus would benefit from an advantage over competitors such as Samsung with its Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 or the successor to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, all expected in the second half of 2025. This timing could allow the brand to capture the attention of consumers in a period less saturated by announcements.

Thus, the OnePlus Open 2 would only be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5 for international markets. A strategy already adopted by the OnePlus Open which demonstrates the growing synergy between the two brands of the same group.
