The Renault Twingo returns, and here is its interior

Now that Renault knows where it will produce its new Twingo, to keep its bet of an electric car for less than 20,000 euros, the brand with the diamond can take the liberty of telling us more about its secrets. Through its concept unveiled at the end of 2023, the lines of the future city car planned for 2026 have aroused the curiosity of the public, already enthusiastic about the neo-retro style strategy led by the R5 and R4 E-Tech. The future Twingo will also be 100% electric, and inexpensive.

However, we haven't had the means to get close to the passenger compartment until now, which Renault had certainly put aside while waiting to find out how much it would cost to produce the final version. The choice of a factory in Slovenia seems to have reassured Renault about the possibility of going further and at the Brussels Motor Show, the French manufacturer unveiled the interior of the future city car. Obviously, it is still the concept, but the production version should be faithful to it.

We thus find the steering wheel integrating the new R5 E-Tech, launched at the end of 2024. The screens will be present on the high-end version, which should be based on the elements present in the interior of this concept, with in particular a 10.1-inch central panel, and 7-inch digital instrumentation. The central console will be quite vertical, as on the R5 E-Tech, but could be more colorful with body-colored ambient lighting. Physical buttons will still be available under the screen, for the air conditioning and hazard lights.

Unlike the bodywork, the interior of the future Twingo is therefore a little less focused on nostalgia and a neo-retro style. Renault did the same on the R5 E-Tech. That said, there are a few interesting details to note. Starting with this fully panoramic glass roof, which we hope to see arrive (but which should certainly be forgotten on the version under 20,000 euros).

There should be plenty of room on board, in particular in the absence of a central console at the front. The seats will resume the use of fabrics reminiscent of the first generation of the Twingo and the two seats in the back can be folded down individually. The front seats have headrests with a magnetic area at the back, certainly to be able to attach accessories such as a smartphone holder. Finally, note that the future electric Twingo of 2026 will be equipped with five doors, for better accessibility.
