At the very end of its Galaxy Unpacked dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, Samsung pulled out an ace up its sleeve: a one more thing with a surprise fourth model, the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Apart from a presentation on stage and a model shown to the press behind a window to reveal its design, we currently know almost nothing about this smartphone.
But the site SmartPrix, helped by the leaker OnLeaks, believes it knows the dimensions of the future device. Before going any further, let's remember that Onleaks has a very good reputation for reliability, but that concerning the Galaxy S25 Edge more specifically, the specialist was wrong about the design of the smartphone.
A thinness capable of competing with the iPhone 17 Air
Despite this disappointment, it is back at it by revealing three crucial elements of the technical sheet of the future high-end smartphone.
The smartphone would be even thinner than the first rumors suggested. These, which were based on a prototype, suggested a thickness of 6.4 mm. But the final model would reach 5.84 mm. For reference, the Galaxy S25 measures 7.2 mm, so that's a gain of 1.36 mm that should feel good in the hand.
This should allow it to effectively compete with the future iPhone 17 Air, which should be between 5.5 and 6 mm thick.
Significant concessions
On the other hand, this thinness would come at the cost of two important concessions. The device's battery would be limited to 3900 mAh, just below the 4000 mAh of the Galaxy S25 and far from the 6000 mAh achieved by some current smartphones.
Battery size is undoubtedly one of the most important factors for autonomy, but optimization counts just as much. Let's remember that the iPhone 16 has excellent battery life despite a 3561 mAh battery.
Another important concession on a smartphone under 6 mm thick, the camera block for its part would measure 10 mm. It's difficult to go against the laws of optics which require maintaining a certain focal distance in the optics of the cameras. The latter would integrate a 200 Mpx sensor for the main camera and 50 Mpx for the ultra-wide-angle.
The Galaxy S25 Edge should be officially released in spring 2025, around April or May. This would put it in direct competition with the Pixel 9a, although we expect a price much higher than the approximately 500 euros of Google's mid-range smartphone.
