Last spring, a crowd of users began complaining that their iPhone alarm no longer rang. According to the many testimonies appearing on social networks, the alarm sometimes forgets to play the ringtone that is supposed to wake the user. In fact, the alarm goes off… but it doesn’t make any noise. As a result, many people arrived late for work, school or some other important appointment.
Faced with this crowd of annoyed testimonies, Apple promised to deploy a fix for the iPhone alarm last April. Nearly a year later, it seems that the malfunction has not yet been fixed. As reported by our colleagues at Android Authority, many users continue to complain about the reliability of the iPhone alarm clock.
A "stupid problem" that annoys iPhone users
On Reddit, users indicate, with videos to support their claims, that the alarm clock sometimes starts ringing several hours behind schedule. This stubborn bug does not only affect iPhones running an older version of iOS. iPhones running iOS 18.2.1 also suffer from a bug with the alarm clock function. The problem still seems to be rooted in the operating system code, despite regular updates from Apple.
We also encountered the problem on our iPhone 16 Pro Max. Over the past few months, it has happened several times that the alarm clock programmed on our smartphone does not ring. In our case, the alarm did not start ringing hours later. According to some reports, the bug isn’t limited to the Clock app. Some people have also missed reminders.
5 years of bugs
By digging through Reddit, the outlet found that the first reports of a bug in the iPhone alarm clock date back to 2020. That’s five years since the alarm clock feature started experiencing occasional glitches. A 2020 post reported that an iPhone running iOS 13 missed several alarms for no apparent reason. The post was followed by a slew of similar reports.
Apple had promised to fix the issue last year. Let's bet that the Cupertino giant will not delay in looking into the problem in the face of this new wave of testimonies.
