After a promise in February and leaks last week, the PS VR2 adapter for PC is finally arriving on the market. Sony has just made official the small accessory designed to increase the capabilities of the virtual reality headset. At the start of 2023, the manufacturer once again entered the VR race, with a new peripheral developed exclusively for its home console. PlayStation was therefore repeating the major mistake of its previous headset for PS4, which was largely limited by the small catalog of titles available on the platform.
Technically speaking, the PS VR2 has everything to please: state-of-the-art screens for a resolution of 2000 x 2040 per eye, a refresh rate of up to 120hz, controllers boosted with DualSense technologies, and even a “see through” feature to visualize the gaming environment and avoid accidents. With better features than most of its competitors, the headset therefore had the only flaw in its exclusive compatibility with the PlayStation 5.
A little over a year after the launch of its product, Sony has finally decided to unbridle it to make it attractive to an ever-wider audience of gamers. The PC adapter for PS VR2 will be marketed from August 7th at a recommended price of €59.99. This will allow simple and direct access to Steam VR library by following these steps.
Here's how to enjoy your PS VR2 on PC
Before you begin your setup, here's what you'll need to use the PlayStation headset on PC:
- A PS VR2 headset (obviously)
- A PS VR2 PC adapter
- A DisplayPort cable that supports DisplayPort 1.4 (sold separately)
- A PC that meets the minimum system requirements
Once you have these items together, simply connect the headset to the PC using the adapter and the DisplayPort 1.4 cable. software, the Steam VR app will also need to be accompanied by a PlayStation proprietary app. These will allow you to make any final adjustments and delimit the play area.
Once these quick steps are done, all that's left to do is add VR titles to your Steam library (if you don't already have any, of course). Note, however, that some features are specific to PlayStation 5 will not be available during your PC gaming sessions.
Some differences lift
On PC, PS VR2 users will not be able to enjoy HDR display, haptic feedback from the headset and controllers, eye tracking or adaptive triggers. Since most other headsets do not have these features, VR games on PC do not support them. The optimal experience of the PS VR2 will therefore remain on PlayStation 5, Sony emphasizes in its blog post.
Even without these exclusive features, the PS VR2 will offer PC gamers one of the best virtual reality experiences in its price range. It is still unfortunate that buyers of this peripheral already billed at 599.99 euros must pay nearly 70 euros more for an adapter + cable combo to enjoy VR on a second platform.
