For a long time, Meta allowed the use of WhatsApp on multiple devices. But this use was quite restricted at the time. While it was possible to use your WhatsApp account on multiple computers at the same time, WhatsApp only allowed use on one smartphone at a time.
In 2023, however, Meta revised its copy. WhatsApp's parent company formalized an option that gives you the ability to use your WhatsApp account simultaneously on multiple smartphones. The company has indeed extended WhatsApp's "companion" mode for simultaneous use on multiple mobile devices. Be careful, however, you can only connect your WhatsApp account simultaneously on a maximum of four devices in addition to your main smartphone. Here are the steps to follow to connect your account on all your smartphones.
1. Set up your secondary device
Open WhatsApp on your secondary smartphone, select your language, and then, on the “Welcome to WhatsApp” app setup page, tap the Accept and continue button at the bottom of the screen. You should then be taken to the screen asking you to enter your phone number.
Whether you’re using an Android smartphone or an iPhone as your secondary smartphone, the method is the same. Tap the options button represented by three small dots, at the top right. In the menu that appears, choose to Connect as a paired device. WhatsApp will then display a QR Code on the screen.
2. Validate the connection
At this stage, enter your main smartphone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings. Then enter the Connected devices menu and press the Connect a device button. Scan the QR Code displayed on the screen of your secondary device using your main smartphone.
Your secondary smartphone should then begin the synchronization process with your main smartphone. After a few minutes, all your WhatsApp messages should be accessible on it.
4. Disconnect your secondary smartphone
If for some reason you no longer want to use your WhatsApp account on your secondary smartphone, you can disconnect it directly from your main smartphone.
To do this, open WhatsApp, go to Settings then to the Connected devices menu, select your secondary smartphone and press the Disconnect button.
