WhatsApp will soon automatically translate the messages received in other languages

You will soon be able to understand messages sent in any language on WhatsApp, even if you are not multilingual. Because the messaging application should quickly become multilingual for you. The WhatsApp teams are in fact working on a function that will handle translations locally on your smartphone.

WhatsApp will make you understand all languages

If you happen to communicate with people in another language on WhatsApp, there is a good chance that you are also using a dedicated translation application. A stopgap solution that certainly allows you to understand the missives sent by your correspondents, but which in the long run pushes you to carry out a rather painful copy-and-paste exercise. However, things seem to be about to change, since WhatsApp is currently testing a new translation function integrated into the application. This is not really a surprise, since we have known since last July that the messaging service was preparing the ground to integrate a translation solution.

But until now, this system was a priori intended for manual operation, requiring the user to choose the translation language themselves. This will clearly not be the case, because WhatsApp is planning a system for automatically detecting the language of the messages you receive. As a result, the process of translating messages in WhatsApp would be fully automated and would allow, for example, to easily follow a group conversation in which participants speak several languages.

Messages translated locally on the smartphone

Users will, however, have one obligation, since they will first have to download the necessary language packs. Thanks to this, the automatic detection and translation process will be done locally on the device. A guarantee of confidentiality regarding the translated exchanges, no data passing through WhatsApp servers.

For the time being, this feature is still under development and no date for its deployment is known. We will probably have to wait a few more weeks, or even a few months, to see it arrive in a future WhatsApp update.
