Will the first God of War be remastered?

Will the first God of War be remastered?

At Sony, remasters are now almost as important as the original games. While we wait for The Last of Us Part II – released in 2020 – another major franchise could be entitled to it. At least that's what Nick Baker, who works for the XboxEra channel, claims. He announces that the next on the PlayStation list would be God of War. On the microphone of the podcast entitled “The 4th Annual Grubbsmas Shpeshaltacular” accompanied by journalist Jeff Grubb, he declares:

For a long time, I lamented the direction God of War is going and I've been pining for the God of War hack-and-slash games. I love them so much.[…] I told a friend who also loves the original God of War trilogy that this might happen, and he was very excited. And I heard that the original God of War trilogy might be getting a remaster on PlayStation.

At this time, there are no details on what the remaster will be. It could range from simple visual performance improvements to a complete character makeover. That said, with a remaster, studios usually leave the story alone, which is more of a remake. Nick Baker, who is more excited about the second proposition, explains:

The other thing I don't quite understand and would like to have details on is whether this is a pure and simple port of what we had on PS3? In that case, I'm a little less enthusiastic. Or is it something more involved, closer to a remake?

Another useless remaster? Not so sure

Of all the PlayStation games that are potential candidates for a remaster, we have to say that the first three God of War games are particularly eyeing us up. The original trilogy is a few years old, with the first game coming out in 2005, and took a big turn when the fourth game came out. Indeed, without having been given an official reboot, the continuation of Kratos' adventures has moved into the realm of Norse mythology, and has largely differentiated itself by its overall artistic direction.

Christopher Judge took over the reins of the old god of war, while the other characters (Atreus, Freya, Sindri Brok, etc.), all new faces, were also interpreted by talented actors in motion capture. The environments were intended to be much more realistic, the clashes less repetitive, but the difficulty still as high. A remaster, of the same order as that of The Last of Us Part Is, would be a good thing to put the first trilogy back on the front of the stage, but also to harmonize the aesthetics by bringing the expertise of the last two opuses.
